Motivation, everyone loves to play and perform when they receive positive reinforcement. Rewards are also a good way to show good work done. Adult students should play for their family, roommates, and friends even over the phone or on social media.
Set a time you like to practice each day and play at approximately the same time daily. It is essential to practice every day even if for only five minutes. Practice should be done when you are alert and is not conflicting with other activities you enjoy. Short practicing sessions are best.
As students progress your pieces become fewer and more difficult. It is important to acknowledge that the time spent practicing one or two advanced pieces is equivalent to practicing four or five beginning pieces.
Adult students must discipline themselves and parents of children must be firm, but loving. Put reminding them to practice in the same category as reminding them to brush their teeth or clean their room.
Know when to end the practice session and end on a positive note.
